Such a bittersweet moment – I am soooo proud of our new Miss Universe 2015 is Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach from the Philippines! The last time Philippines held the Miss Universe Title was 42 years ago! However, it was such a bittersweet moment… For the first time in the Miss Universe Pageant’s history where the host made a huge mistake by announcing and crowning the wrong person before announcing the correct winner… How mortifying for everyone involved…
First I feel bad for Miss Colombia… I can only imagine how she must have felt, having gone through the euphoria of being crowned Miss Universe, only for her crown and title to be mentioned as a “mistake”. Second, for Miss Philippines – now Miss Universe 2015 – she didn’t get to fully experience the priceless, most coveted and magnanimous crowning moment every candidate dreams of. In her words, she said, “It was rather untraditional – so 2015”, perhaps still feeling the shock, I suppose… It was a very awkward moment that ensued after Steve Harvey, apologized where time stood still and nobody knew what to do next. Third, I can only imagine how Steve Harvey must have felt knowing that he had to make things right. After the pageant, Steve went to Twitter and posted an apology, but then spelled “Philippines” as “Philippians”. A post he immediately deleted but was screen captured and posted by curious netizens.
Oh and let’s not forget the gracious Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega who immediately took control of the situation by standing between the two ladies and was seen comforting and calming both of them with her touching gestures and words of comfort, behind the camera and possibly gone unnoticed. She held that awkward moment with such grace. In fact, all 3 of them handled it with such poise and grace and there’s much to be said about all of them.
I am sooo proud of Miss Philippines, considering that only a few days ago, she was looking for a gown to wear and per our dear Janet Susan Rodriguez Nepales, Hollywood Media Correspondent, Pia’s team reached out to famed Filipino International Fashion Designer, Oliver Tolentino, who immediately came to her rescue by sending her a stunning red crystal studded gown – even though he received the news when he was skiing in Aspen, CO! He immediately mobilized his team. This right here is a very touching story of the “Bayanihan” spirit or communal unity, support and cooperation. This truly is a proud moment for us Filipinos from all around the world!
Congratulations our dearest Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. We’re all sharing in your joy and cheering you on as you make your mark in the world! #MissUniverse2015 #PiaAlonzoWurtzbach #MissUniverse #MissPhilippinesUniverse2015 #SteveHarvey
